Getting a tan, or trying to get a tan, has always been quite the pastime for a lot of people. And this is not just for the people from a certain part of the world. In fact, this pastime would go just about anywhere around the world.
However, with this pastime comes the risk of acquiring serious skin disease, skin cancer even. But there really is no need to worry right now, because sunless tanners have hit the market. And these sunless tanning products are spreading like wildfire in the market.
But before we go to the sunless tanning products themselves, let’s tackle first the act of sunless tanning. Simply put, sunless tanning is the process of getting a tan without the harsh risks of being too exposed to sunlight. And this does not involve tanning booths either. The mechanism of sunless tanning is simply within the usage of sunless tanning products. The sunless tanning system employed by these products involves changing the color of the skin’s outermost layer, which is the stratum corneum. This is the outermost epidermis of the skin.
Now that the process is out of the way, let’s move on to the sunless tanners themselves. This is just about the easiest and safest method of getting a tan. In fact, sunless home tanning is indeed one of the most convenient ways to achieve this. But before you do apply these sunless tanning moisturizer products and such, there are things you need to do first. And this involves preparing your skin for the treatment.
The first step in prepping your skin would be to clean your skin. Take a shower or soak in the tub. Having clean skin is one way of making sure the treatment is indeed effective. But merely showering is not enough. You also have to get rid of excess hair on whatever parts of your body you want to be tanned. Excess hair can be troubling when applying sunless tanners.
Aside from getting rid of hair, you should also get rid of dead skin. We all shed off dead skin cells pretty much everyday. And you should eliminate such dead skin cells before you apply sunless tanning products. You can do this by simply brushing your skin with an exfoliating scrub. This removes rough skin as well. In doing so, you should also watch out for those body parts where there are folds and bends. Dead skin cells tend to be from these areas.
After doing such, be sure to rinse your body thoroughly, to get rid of all dead skin cells altogether. Before applying your sunless tanner, be sure to dry your skin completely. Sunless tanners work better when applied to completely dry skin. It’s also better to use gloves when applying these sunless tanning products. This is because the concoction can indeed stain your hands. To avoid this, just use plastic gloves when handling them. The gloves do not have to be thick and of the expensive kind. Just get those regular plastic gloves, and you should be just fine. If you don’t have any gloves, and there’s just absolutely no way for you to purchase a pair, this is still all right. You can still use your hands, of course, but you’d have to wash them several times. Sunless tanners can indeed leave your hands stained orange.
Use small amounts of your sunless tanner when applying. Don’t use large amounts in just one dab because you’d very well miss a spot when doing so. Once all spots are covered, do not wear any clothing over them for at least 30 to 35 minutes. This is typically the time it needs for sunless tanners to dry off. It takes around 1 to 3 hours for the lotion’s color to reach its optimum. You should not reapply tanner on your skin before this time period elapses. But once the optimum has been reached, and you’re not satisfied with the tan you have, you can reapply the tanner by then.
