Sunblocks

Summer is just around the corner, and there’s no better way to spend your summer than to lounge at the beach. But before you go and do just that, there are certain things you need to know about skin care. This is especially true in avoiding the onset of skin diseases.

For starters, you would need to know the obvious fact that sunblock is quite the necessity during summer. So, what does sunblock do exactly? Let’s start with the components of typical bottle of sunblock. The typical bottle would contain zinc oxide or titanium oxide. Whether it be sunblock with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide sunblock, both of these do the job by scattering the rays of the sun. When this happens, the sunblock actually becomes a barrier to the sun’s very harmful UV rays.

But, let’s face it. With the many sunblocks in the market worldwide, there really is no concrete way of knowing which of them would be the best sunblock for you and your family. There’s even that inevitable risk that the components of the sunblock you’re using are not really safe for you and your family. In this case, you are actually putting your family at risk, which is quite the opposite of what you want to achieve in the first place.

But what about sunscreens? Are sunscreens and sunblocks one and the same? Or if not, then what is the difference between sunblock and sunscreen? As mentioned above, and with the obvious deduction from the words sun block from sunblock, this product has a blocking motion when it comes to thwarting harmful ultraviolet rays. But this mechanism is not present in sunscreens at all. Rather, sunscreens work by absorption of the sun’s ultraviolet rays. This is done so that the UV rays will not be permitted to reach the user’s skin at all.

When compared, sunblock clearly has an advantage over sunscreen. This is because there really is a blocking motion from the product itself. This means that from the onset, the rays are not allowed to reach the skin because they are blocked out in the first place. With sunscreens, the UV rays are prevented from making contact to the skin because these are absorbed by the product. But who are we to know that the rays were really absorbed, right?

You have to be extra careful when buying such products though. Because there are indeed some products in the market claiming to be sunblocks, when they are in fact really sunscreens. And you won’t know by the physical look of the substance itself because sunblocks and sunscreens look just about the same. Try to compare the contents of a sample size sunblock and a sample size sunscreen, and you won’t see much difference at all. The only way to distinguish the both of them is by checking the components on the bottle themselves. The typical sunblock should contain either zinc oxide or titanium oxide. The typical sunscreen does not contain either of these two.

Also, whether you’re using sunblock or sunscreen, you should take note that there are times when you would have to reapply them onto your skin all over again. This is especially when you wear off the sunblock or sunscreen by engaging in activities that make you sweat, as well as swimming.

Yes, sunblocks and sunscreens do work effectively. But it pays to be vigilant as well. Even if you are wearing these, you still should not spend too much time under the sun. This is because there is still every chance that you would endanger your skin due to too much exposure. And this is something you should very well keep in mind; now that the summer season is just around the corner.
