Prehistorically believed to be the mark of witches, acrochordons also known as skin tags is a cosmetic condition where benign and tiny tumors grow on top of our skin usually around the parts where the skin forms creases like the eyelids, neck, and armpits. It is referred to as a cosmetic condition rather than a medical condition for it does not pose any dangers to your health.

The emergence of a skin tag is not a concern about health but there appearances are suspected to be associated with ones health. This tiny wart-like manifestation develops on both men and women but commonly on the latter. They tend to appear more in obese people and those who have type-2 diabetes. But what really are skin tags and how do they look like?

They are small, fleshy, sometimes colored growth of stalks that protrude out of your skin. They are virtually harmless, however they can be aggravated and irritated by excessive rubbing and if found in places such as the neck where there is always friction. Although known to be medically a tumor, its growth will not do you any harm and a skin tag removal is not necessary. However, although getting rid of skin tags is not medically compulsory, a lot of people would still opt to have them eliminated for good.

More and more people are growing enormous concerns about how they look and of course having skin tags affect our appearance and our self esteem. Having them, especially on our face, can sure make one very self conscious. However, the good thing about the popularity of skin care is that a growing number of ways to remove skin tags is now available both topical and surgical. In fact there are even organic and natural products that can lessen their appearances and can make us feel good about ourselves.

If skin tags are cosmetically unwanted or if you are still bothered by its appearance even though it’s not doing you any harm, you can consult a dermatologist to give you an immediate cure however most of them would require a surgical but minor operation. Treatments would include freezing it off with liquid nitrogen, tightly tying of the skin tag with a suture or a plain thread to cut blood supply, or simply by excising or cutting off a skin tag with the use of a scissors or a scalpel.

Skin tags are one condition which until now doesn’t have a definite cause. Although its causes are still not established, these factors are found to play a role:



A skin tag is a tumor in nature basically because of its growth. However, the fact that it is benign and non-cancerous can just alleviate your comfort. They are virtually harmless, however if you still aren’t comfortable with their occurrence, you can have them medically checked by a dermatologist to give yourself your own peace of mind.
