Have you ever wondered what life would be without the advent of razor? It would be extremely hairy! For thousands of years, men have been in constant struggle with their facial hair. In the prehistoric ages, men would scrape the hair away with unsafe weapons like stones, flints, clams and even other sharpened material. Later, during the dawn of copper, they have created iron and copper razor-like thingamajig. Thanks to the recent development in technology, a more civilized and safer tool was made to end the conflict between the men and the beard.
Shaving has already been a staple every-day activity for men and women alike. It has somehow become a necessity. Men shave to remove facial have to give them a clean-shaven look and women use them to remove leg and underarm hair sometimes referred to as smoothing. The simple reason behind shaving is hygiene.
Over time, shaving has grown major popularity as it evolved into its modern form. Along with its fame, come the marketing and the flock of shaving products. The aggressive acceptance of these products exploded over the past years through the help of the media. Today, shaving creams have become part of our daily lives.
A shaving cream is an emulsion that is applied to the face prior to shaving. Shaving creams act as a lubricant while shaving. It can also indicate which parts have already been shaven. They are commonly bought in cans, but are also available in tubes and tubs. Shaving can leave you skin dry, that’s why most shave creams have moisturizers. Some even have extracts of aloe vera for soothing and tea tree oil which acts as an anti-septic.
A shaving cream in can is mostly dispensed as foam. A relatively new items are shaving gel, which his rubbed on the face to create a lather. It is commonly used with a shaving brush to produce a richer lather. Gel or foam based shaving creams are usually made from alcohol which can cause excessive dryness to the skin. However, creams that come from tubes or tubs are mostly based on glycerin soaps which are more or less easier on the skin.
The distinctions between one brand of shaving cream and another is the proportion of the ingredients used. Each manufacturer would have people believe that the ingredients of shaving creams are their very own guarded secret. However, such secrecy greatly revolves around the amount of standard components that are used and somehow by the choice of staple substitutes. By abidance to law, the list of ingredients is required to be printed on the right hand portion of the container. In fact, a shaving cream recipe is easily found in chemistry books that are widely available in many libraries.
Of course, if there are pros there always have to be cons. Many people are spreading black propaganda regarding shaving creams. They say that these concoctions are purely just a racket and a plain waste of money. Some would even claim that they weaken facial pores making them unresponsive and all mushy. True, researches have proven that hair cuts off easily when it is wet. Then why not just wet your face and then shave? How come the people of today get so addicted and pretty much hooked in this stuff?
Activists against shaving creams strongly believe that the reason behind people’s addiction to shaving creams is mainly because of its foamy appearance. It makes shaving more fun. They even stress out that they are the main reason why people get cuts and burns because they can’t see through what they are shaving.
True, this may be other angles of shaving creams. Others would prefer shaving with it or sometimes even without it. But the true decision whether to opt for one will still lie in your hands.
