One of the most recognized facial skin care products of today is Pond’s. It is therefore amusing to know how the brand name had constantly changed its brand label, from Pond’s Extract to Pond’s Healing to Pond’s Vanishing Cream to Pond’s Cold Cream then to finally rest simply as Pond’s, or Pond’s Institute.
Pond’s saga began when the chemist Theron T. Pond discovered the medicinal properties of an extract of the witch hazel. The healing tea, the extract, was found to be very beneficial in rebuilding tissues in cuts and abrasions. He marketed this extract as Pond’s Extract, sometimes referred to as “Pond’s Golden Treasure”, with the Pond’s treated as his surname.
Following the success of this wonder product, the T.T. Pond Company was established. That was in1849, and the fledging T.T. Pond Company attracted a good number of investors while building slowly a solid clientele base. Theron T. Pond’s enjoyment of this success was short lived however, as his health failed. He sold his share before passing in 1852.
The later campaigns with Pond’s was as a healing product, and such the product line was then relabeled as Pond’s Healing until 1910. Shortly, around mid 19th century, Pond’s began entering the scene of cosmetics still with their healing extract now relabeled as Pond’s Vanishing Cream and Pond’s Cold Cream. In several countries but most particularly Spain, Thailand and Japan, Ponds was already synonymous with skin care.
Come the 20th century, Pond’s seem to have updated comprehensively. Aside from the most popular Pond’s Cold Cream, now there are dozens of Pond’s skin care products available for young and old, including Pond’s Dry Skin Cream and Pond’s White Skin Care. Using the latest ingredients and breakthrough science, and close to 100 years of dermatological experience, Pond’s Institute now presents a whole new level of skin care, anti aging, and facial problems treatments.
Here are some of the most popular Pond’s products.
Pond’s target the problem of aging before the years by slowing down skin damage due to environmental factors such as overexposure to sunlight. Overexposure to elements, not just sunlight, causes the skin to lose moisture and resulting into a dry and dull complexion, a skin that is not flexible enough to survive wear and tear properly. Ironically, the fast turnover of skin causes the skin to be more healthy, vibrant, supple and strong. With Pond’s several extraordinary products treat all signs of aging due to these factors. With the wealth of experience, Pond’s know that there are certain elements and extracts suitable for dermatological treatment: china clay, white tea, grape seed extract and potassium. That’s how Pond’s Dermal Recovery Complex was formulated, by a unique cocktail of these age defying ingredients. There’s the Mend & Defend having a intensive SPF 15 protection and moisturizer; the Time Rewind, an overnight wrinkle treatment cream; and the Revive in Five, a 5 minute application that can age defy in no time at all.
Any of the Pond’s products in the Dermal Recovery Complex acts much like a humectant. As a skin toner, it works more superior than the famed rose water. While rose water is famed for keeping in moisture, any of the Dermal Recovery Complex does a bit more – by drawing moisture into the skin for the most intensive hydration.
Pond’s is still best known for products like Deep Cleanser, Cold Cream, and Vanishing Cream. These products serve as a highlight in Pond’s history, creating a niche for the brand name in the highly competitive international market for cosmetics.
The Pond’s Cold Cream is perhaps the most successful cleansing product for skin care. In a non greasy, cold cream solution, what it does is gently but thoroughly remove all traces of dirt, oil (sebum), makeup and other substances, leaving a skin that also slightly refreshed and smooth. And the Cold Cream is rarely hypoallergenic, won’t cause any debilitating effects even if used regularly. Unlike moisturizers, they never clog pores, and unlike most products from leading brand names, it is suitable to all skin types.
