Oily Skin

Oily skin is caused by “overactive” sebaceous glands which secretes too much quantities of oil in the skin’s pores. The result is often pimples, lesions, and bumps. The abundance of oil assists in trapping bacteria and dead cells that become stuck in the skin’s pores. This will usually be the root of many kinds of acne conditions. People dealing with excessive sebum have the option of countless available treatments, as well as natural oily skin treatment. Some have proven to be somewhat safe and effective for many users.

Signs Of Oily Skin

Oily skin is coarsely textured, has a nearly constant shiny or greasy look, and the pores are large. The skin usually has continuous presentation of blackheads and bumps. If there’s one positive thing about oily skin, is the slower aging effect because of the constant moisture present in its epidermis.

This type of skin will need special skincare process to keep its pores unclogged. People with oily skin need to adopt a method for proper cleansing daily to stop the accumulation of oil and dirt on the surface of the skin.

Treating Oily Skin

Proper cleansing is the first and critical step in successfully treating oily skin. Use a gentle cleanser for the face with warm water, twice every day. Experts’ state that every eight hours the sebum on the skin must be cleansed away that causes blemishes. Generally, washing the face once during the day and once in the evening is sufficient.

If the skin is exposed to oils in the workplace or if excessive perspiration can’t be helped, then cleansing for a third time may be helpful. On the other hand, it should be kept in mind that washing or scrubbing excessively as constant stimulation may cause more oil. A sensible and balanced treatment for oily skin is necessary.

Strangely enough, cleansers that are oil-based must be used to dissolve residue. Cleansers that have anti-bacterial properties are effective ways of countering bacteria that causes pimples. Don’t use cleansers that contain alcohol ingredients as they may lead to too much dryness.

After proper cleansing, use oil-free and mild moisturizer to maintain the suppleness and smoothness of the epidermis. A number of experts recommend that people having extreme cases of oily skin must refrain from the use of moisturizers till they reach the age of about thirty.

Other treatments for oily skin may also be used, such as antiseptic day/night creams and mud masks. Some creams include benzoyl peroxide in their ingredients and are usually very effective for oily skin. Mud masks are other treatments for oily skin and may be applied at home or at spas. Astringents are also very helpful in melting sebum, and must be used sparingly because they then to dry the skin harshly as well. A natural astringent that can be applied occasionally is Witch-Hazel.

Home Treatments

There are also natural “home solutions” that may be used effectively without costing too much. Some home treatments include: mixing water and lemon juice equally, and applying two to three times every day; mixing lime juice and ½ tsp. cucumber, and apply before showering; mixing witch-hazel and lime juice before applying make-up –don’t wash away, let it dry before putting on any cosmetics.

Right Diet

While some dermatologists are hesitant to suggest the diet is one factor that affects sebum production, there has been increasing evidence that balanced diet help control blemishes. Eating foods low in fats helps reduce the production of sebum in glands. Diet rich in vegetables, fiber, and fruits provides not just nutrients for the body, but also assists in sweeping off toxic overload that may lead to “epidermal problems”.

Oily skin is a concerning skin type, and needs to have special attention and care. The proper skincare treatments, as well as healthy diet will help prevent unwanted breakouts and blemishes.
