In an age where global warming is the most prevalent issue in the world, it’s not a mere coincidence that people are buying more skin care products to protect themselves from diseases caused by the hole in the ozone layer. Buying such products on the market may have been seen as frivolous before. Now, it’s your skin’s last line of defense.
Fortunately, your bad luck ends there. Yes skin care products are costly but you don’t need to worry about that because you can make your own facial recipe box! It’s easy to make and the ingredients can be found in your home or local drugstore.
There are three basic steps to achieving that blemish-free visage – cleanse, tone and moisturize. These are the most important elements in your facial recipe box. As long as you do this regimen everyday, your skin will remain smooth and supple.
Cleanse
It is important to wash away dead cells that have accumulated on your skin or risk pimples and blackheads. This is done at the beginning and end of your day. Get half a jar of cold cream, three tablespoons of almonds and one teaspoon of honey. Crush almonds in a blender until they are as fine as ground pepper. Add the honey to your cold cream and mix this with the blended almonds. Wash your face with lukewarm water to open up your pores then massage the concoction onto your skin with your ring fingers for five minutes. Finish off by rinsing your face with cool water. This facial scrub recipe is good for all types of skin.
Tone
A toner’s function is to wipe off oily residue on skin and gives you a feeling of freshness. This is done after your second face cleansing of the day. The ingredients for your homemade toner would be half a cup of mineral or distilled water and two teaspoons of green tea leaves or one green tea bag. Green tea firms and at the same time relaxes your skin. It also contains antioxidants that combat signs of aging. Boil the water first then pour it over a bowl with your tea leaves or tea bag and wait for 2-3 minutes for the tea to permeate the bowl. Strain the mixture into a bottle and allow it to cool. Apply it on your skin using cotton balls. Be careful not to rinse it off.
Moisturize
Lastly, use a moisturizer to soothe and protect your skin. This is especially essential for those who suffer from dry skin since it will give your face a smoother texture once applied. You normally moisturize after toning at the end of the day but if you have dry skin, you may want to do this twice a day. Mix one egg yolk and two tablespoons of honey until you produce a light paste. Apply this to your face and neck. Be sure to avoid the eye area and mouth. Leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse it off thoroughly with lukewarm water. This is a healthy and cheaper alternative of branded face creams.
Aside from the facial trifecta, you can also treat your face to a deep cleansing to do away with the stress of work or school. Here are face mask recipes for the dry, oily and combination skin types.
Dry Skin
Get a tablespoon of oatmeal, half of a mashed ripe banana and two ounces of plain yogurt. Start with cleansing your face with the facial scrub recipe and rinse with cool water. Massage your face with the dry oatmeal then wash it off. Spread the mixture of banana and yogurt evenly on your face. Leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse it off.
Oily Skin
Boil two fresh tomatoes and gently peel the skin after letting it sit for a few minutes. Mash them and remove the seeds. Add a tablespoon of peppermint leaves, half a tablespoon of dried yeast and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Apply this face mask recipe gently for 10 minutes, three times a week.
Combination Skin
We don’t live in a black and white world therefore our skin doesn’t restrict itself to just two categories. You can tell if you have a combination skin type by taking a skin test. Wash your face and let it dry then take a couple of pieces of rice paper and place them on different parts of your face. If the papers stick on your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) then you have a combination skin. Don’t worry because the combination skin is also called the normal skin type. You can use this face mask recipe on both combination and oily skin types. Cleanse your face with the facial scrub recipe, rinse off with cool water and let it dry. Rub a tablespoon of dry cornmeal on your face then wash it off. Apply a mask made of two whisked eggs on it and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Rinse off.
These are just a few of the cheapest ways to maintain your beauty regimen. You don’t need to have the most expensive products in your facial recipe box to ensure protection for your face. You only have to go to your kitchen to remain beautiful.
