A diaper rash is not something any parent would want his or her child to go through. Really, it would pain any parent to see his or her child suffering a diaper rash. This is why if you want to get down to treating diaper rash, you should first know the causes of diaper rash, so as to avoid them.
So what causes a baby diaper rash? A diaper rash happens whenever the environment of your baby’s diaper becomes irritating to your baby’s skin. A baby’s skin is very, very sensitive. And when prolonged wetness plagues your baby’s diaper, then this can very well cause a diaper rash in the long run. In fact, prolonged wetness is one of the most common causes of diaper rash. And if not attended to, this can lead to a more severe diaper rash.
Do not forget that the wetness in diapers is mostly from urine and partly sweat. Sure, diapers can absorb such liquids. But any diaper can only hold so much. There would really come a time when you would have to change a diaper, right? If such time were taken for granted, then prolonged wetness would most definitely occur. The chemicals present in the wetness can very well cause diaper rash, even yeast diaper rash. Plus, the diaper itself has chemicals of its own, especially the disposable ones. The mixture of such chemicals can indeed harm any baby.
But if it cannot be helped, and your baby already has a diaper rash, don’t be too panicky about it. There are a lot of creams that serve as diaper rash treatment. An example of such diaper rash cures is diaper relief cream. It would be better to notice the rash early on, so that you can start treating it right away. If you notice that your baby’s skin is somehow red, with hints of irritation, then you should apply diaper relief cream over the swollen area. If you prolong the diaper rash treatment, this can only worsen the condition. This can even lead to yeast diaper rash or streptococcus diaper rash. Urine and such is the perfect breeding ground for yeast, as well as the bacteria known as Streptococcus. This is the same bacteria that can cause strep throat in children. Rashes caused by bacteria are very, very serious. Most even require the medical attention of a pediatrician.
To avoid diaper rash, the only way to do this would be to be vigilant about diaper changes. You should be on your toes because you never know when your baby might need a diaper change, you know. So, you should check his or her diaper once in a while, just to be on the safe side.
There are a number of diaper rash treatments that you can try at home as well. When cleaning your baby, you should not use wipes that contain chemicals. Just use water and soap to clean your baby. Be sure to use soap that is hypoallergenic as well. Do not use alcohol. A baby’s skin is sensitive as it is, and rubbing alcohol all over can do more harm than good to your baby. Do not use cornstarch either. Cornstarch promotes the growth of yeast, and if that is the cause of infection, then this would just double the harm. Try to keep your baby’s bottom exposed to air as much as possible. The key here is to keep your baby’s bottom dry. Thus, you should also refrain from using diapers that are too tight on your baby. Tight diapers may be less of a hassle to handle than loose ones, but they can also cause diaper rash. It would definitely be better to sacrifice comfort for the welfare of your baby.
