There are three major elements that the skin gradually loses as it ages over time. These are collagen which is responsible for keeping skin suppleness; elastin which keeps skin firm and hyaluronic acid which helps retain water and provide skin texture.
Apart from the downsides that skin aging brings to one’s physical appearance, acne and the scarring that may come after it also contribute to wreaking havoc and blocking one’s way towards looking beautiful and radiantly youthful. Some may also see that the way they naturally look may still not be beautiful to them yet, so much so that they need to plump it up or give it a little fill.
Dermal Fillers just might be the solution to these problems. These are tiny injections that are being used to treat unsightly signs of aging by letting the dermis return to its youthful condition. It is injected into the skin to lift sagging skin, minimize or eliminate wrinkles, plump up lips, treat acne scars and re-volumize soft tissues that are prone to loss. Dermal fillers are commonly being applied to treat facial areas such as lines around the nose and mouth area, furrows or the creasing on the middle of the eyebrows and lip pouts. It can also contour the face by augmenting the cheekbones and chin.
Hyaluronic Acid and Collagen-based dermal fillers are the most common and widely used from among the many different types of dermal fillers available at present. These are only temporary dermal fillers. Silicone, on the other hand, is considered as a permanent dermal filler but has gained both controversy and criticism alike since it reportedly causes the formation of bumpy scars called granuloma which can continue to form years even after treatment. While formulations for silicone dermal fillers may have been updated and modified, studies are still undergoing a long and continual process.
In a dermal filler treatment, tiny amounts of gel are injected into your skin with the use of a fine needle into the skin’s upper level. The gel will then correct the wrinkle by lifting or folding it up. The same procedure also goes for lips but is injected into your lips’ body in order to give more definition to its shape. A soothing cream is then applied after the injection is made.
Another type of treatment which is dermal filler for acne scar, commonly uses collagen. It is injected directly into the skin to raise and even it out to surface skin level.
After treatment, you can go back to your normal activities. You may appear a little swollen and pinkish and can experience a mild burning sensation and slight bruising especially if you are taking certain types of medication. These aftereffects are but normal and will resolve quickly. The effect of dermal fillers varies from person to person, also depending on the amount of gel injected. Most treatments, however, last for up to ten months although it may not take that long for a lip treatment since it is constantly being moved. Generally, dermal fillers do not give permanent results so it would be necessary to undergo repeated treatments to maintain your desired look.
With the increasing popularity of dermal fillers, more and more practitioners are getting a hand at improving their knowledge and skills in practicing this type of treatment by studying dermal filler training. This course introduces the latest techniques as well as provide better enhancement to the range of treatment needed in practicing this cosmetic procedure. However, dermal filler training is usually limited only to dentists, general practitioners, nurses, surgeons and trainee surgeons.
So if you feel like giving your skin a facelift with dermal fillers, go ahead and give it a shot. It may be just be the answer to your skin prayers.
