Clinique

Launched in 1968 by Estée Lauder, Inc. as the foremost dermatologist tested, fragrance free cosmetic line, Clinique has since then grown into one of the most successful prestigious cosmetics brand names. Clinique was the evolution of cosmetics, being the first to incorporate specialized skin care in their skin care products, the first to shift from universal prescription to a friendlier, user specific cosmetic product. And Clinique, being the cheaper of Estée Lauder’s brand names, also helped in promoting Clinique’s commercial success. Way cheaper than several of Estée Lauder’s brand name divisions or others from prestigious cosmetics manufacturers, brand names like Prescriptives or Origins or even Estée Lauder products itself.

Clinique was the original 3 Step Skin Care System. By formulating the 3 Step Skin Care System, the Cleansing, Exfoliating and the Moisturizing, Clinique was able to boost sales as Clinique skin care products were heavily promoted and sold as packages, with several of these products designed to be used in junction with the other. Cleansing involves using Clinique’s dermatology tested facial bar soap, then Exfoliating using Clinique’s skin toners to exfoliate the skin (removing outermost dead skin while also shrinking the pores), and then using Clinique’s moisturizing lotion to add moisture to a clean but dry skin.

Step 1: Cleansing with facial soap or liquid facial soap

The first step involves cleaning the facial skin. Dirt, grease, sebum and makeup are removed in the first step. Using bar soap may be essential, but this soap can also dehydrate the skin, making it less flexible to wear and tear. In the long run, repeated use of strong soap can cause the facial skin to toughen, giving it less glowing expression. Clinique’s facial soap is designed to be gentle for the facial skin, yet also designed to remove dirt and makeup.

Step 2: Exfoliate with Skin Toners like Clinique Clarifying Lotion

Exfoliating the skin involves removing the uppermost dead skin layers, cleansing, and also moisturizing a bit. In the 3 Step Skin Care, the Clinique Clarifying Lotion is used. This lotion cleanses the dirt that wasn’t removed by soap, relaxing the pores, and adding bit moisture, in short revitalizing the skin. Step 2 can be seen as the mediator of the two steps.

Step 3: Add and retain the moisture with several of Clinique’s moisturizing lotions or gels

Serves as the packaging of the skin. Primarily, moisturizer serves to revitalize by moisturizing and also trapping moisture in the skin. Like the rest of the steps, there are several types of Clinique moisturizers that are to be used depending on the type of skin you have. Each product is furthermore diversified into categories of skin types, e.g. combination dry, dry, oily, and combination oily.

Clinique Line Expansion

Since the initial skin care regimen, Clinique has since expanded into different directions while still remaining in skin care solutions. Clinique has now expanded with products designed to specifically treat and alleviate already ongoing skin diseases, including Clinique skin care products designed to treat acne, blackheads and myriads types of skin care inflammations and fungal infections. Clinique has also expanded with products treating severe cases of facial problems, such acne vulgaris, excessive facial oil or extremely dry skin.

Clinique has also entered the world of men, catering to the entirely dissimilar conditions by formulating products designed to meet a man’s requirement. Clinique skin care for man include facial soap, and cleansing lotions with varied strengths, or even specialized Clinique skin care for man like eye hydrator, lip balm, M-Protect 21 (a Clinique designed moisturizing sunscreen for men). Parallel choice to women’s fragrances by Clinique, men’s fragrances are also released, dermatology tested skin colognes designed for daily wear.
