Botox Injections

Furrows. Frown lines. Crow’s feet. Neck bands. These are just a few symptoms which some people dread so much as they go through the process of aging. These can never be stopped of course. But with the wonders of science and modern technology, these unsightly signs can now be banished, thanks to Botox.

Botox, a trade name for botulinum toxin A, is a purified form of the toxin botulinum - responsible for blocking the signals that would tell your muscles to contract. It is successfully being used to treat blepharospasm, strabismus and cervical dystonia – conditions that are closely associated with spasms and involuntary muscle contraction. Simply put, the reason why some people go for Botox injections could be safely answered by the notion that if an area of the body can not move, it will not wrinkle.

Botox, which is also being used for cosmetic purposes, is a simple, non-surgical and physician administered treatment which has been successfully applied to treat fair to grave glabellar lines, more commonly known as frown lines, and is approved for treatment to patients between eighteen (18) up to sixty-five (65) years old.

Botox injections have hit increasing popularity among several men and women in the field of beauty. When Botox is injected into the facial muscles around wrinkles, these muscles are relaxed and cannot crease, making it appear less noticeable. The effect of a Botox injection is temporary and usually lasts for a period of four (4) to eight (8) months.

Although not all facial muscles benefit from it, it can be used to treat other facial wrinkles such as between the eyebrows and on the bridge of the nose, forehead creases, neck bands and crow’s feet or those unsightly lines which fan out from the corners of the eyes. Moreover, Botox can not reverse wrinkling caused by the sun and its degree of efficacy may also depend on your skin’s texture and the extent of your wrinkles.

A Botox treatment which is usually performed for ten to fifteen minutes, is done by injecting Botox into target muscle areas with a thin needle. The doctor carefully chooses which muscles to treat, usually only those muscles that produce wrinkles so that natural facial expressions are maintained, in effect. Keep in mind that if you are considering a Botox injection, you should consult a qualified doctor that has an extensive experience in performing the injection. You would not want to go haywire in the process.

How many Botox injections needed, however, will depend on the facial features, the gravity of your wrinkles and target areas being treated. Furrows in the forehead could take much more treatments than crow’s feet which usually require only two to five.

After treatment, you can immediately go back to normal, everyday activities but with extra caution, though. You may experience possible side effects such as redness, pain and bruising in the injection site, headache, and nausea. Be careful not to irritate or massage treated areas, as the toxin might be transferred to other parts of your face and could cause temporary facial weakness and drooping. Results can already be visible in just a few days, but it would take a couple of weeks before you can see the full effect. And since the results are only fleeting, you will need to undergo another Botox injection if you want to sustain your youthful look.

Cost of Botox injections vary depending upon your doctor, location and extent of treatment. If you feel like going for it but find that the cost may be too expensive for you, you can always consult your doctor for a financial scheme or better yet, advise you whether the treatment best fits your health and wants.
